Canada To Spend $1B To Host 13 FIFA World Cup Games

Canada is expected to spend over $1 billion to host 13 FIFA Worl Cup matches across Vancouver and Toronto.

A Parliamentary Budget Officer report estimates that the total cost for hosting the games will reach about $1.066 billion.

Toronto will host six matches, while Vancouver will host seven.

The federal government is contributing approximately $473.2 million, with the rest coming from other levels of government.

The report estimates an average cost of about $82 million per game, noting that this is similar to previous World Cup tournaments when adjusted for comparison.

Major spending areas include security, airport screening, border protection, and event preparation.

Toronto alone is expected to spend about $380 million on its six matches, with operating costs covering police, emergency services, paramedics, and fire services, while capital costs account for infrastructure and upgrades.

Vancouver is also projected to spend hundreds of millions on preparations for its seven matches.

Officials say the investments are part of ensuring safety, infrastructure readiness, and smooth tournament operations.
